HONDA CIVIC 1989:
Whenever we would drive and stop and drive and stop many times in a short amount of time (say doing errands)...the engine REVS up but wont actually start like its trying to work, but cant...wait about 10 minutes, starts right up....lately its gotten worse....i drove to work fine, left it for 8 hours went out and wont start same thing....revs up...like trying to...but wont...had to leave it overnight...next day works.
There has also been a little smoke and smell burning plastic/rubber coming from behing my steering wheel area, may be electrical related?
mechanic doesnt know what it is...he doesnt see smoke/smell burning when i take it to him...and it starts up fine for him...UGH!
Since it works GREAT 85% of the time, I know its not:The battery is perfect (had it tested), fuel pump should be fine, dont think its the alternator, or distributor, not the air filter(all clean), not the starter FUSE, checked spark plugs and made sure were connected well...
I THINK it may be electrical...maybe the computer chip?
any ideas would be helpful!! THANKS ALL! Scott
