I have a 95 Corolla, 117000 miles. Sometimes it starts fine, other times it won't turn over, like the battery has been removed. All electrical works, but starter won't engage, no noises, no slow spin, nothing. Like the circuit has been cut off. Replaced the battery, checked connections, etc. If it is the starter or you recommend having the starter checked, how do you get the starter out? It is on the back side of the engine. I can see how to get it off, but there is no place to pull it out? Could this be a relay switch or starter switch? Thanks

Does the the car have a manual transmision ? I ask because most cars have a switch on the clutch pedal that only allows the vehicle to start with the pedal depressed. I have had that switch go bad so that it works one time and not the next.

Turn headlights on when trying to start when it won't and see if they dim when trying to start engine.

I tried the test and the headlights did not dim, nor did the interior lite.

Need to check wiring from ignition switch to starter. Check for power at the starter and for switched power when turning key. (Need two people for this.)

Thanks for the help. I'll try the test this weekend when I can get one of my sons to assist. Have to suspect a solanoid occasionally malfunctioning as it appears to be the original starter. I want to remove the starter and have it tested, but can't figure out how to squeeze it out. Manual says it comes out by the air cleaner assembly. Thanks again.

Could just be bad solenoid contacts, but I suggest new starter with solenoid due to their age also.

Thanks for the help. It was the solinoid. Since it was the orginal starter, I replaced it and solved my problem. Happy Holidays to all of you and thanks again for coming to my rescue.
