pontiac lemans 1973 radio installation help

Hi, I have a 1973 Pontiac Lemans, two door, 350 V8. I only have an AM radio in there and 95% of the time nothing comes in. I bought a Pioneer DEH-1900mp radio/cd player. I havent been able to find any place around here that knows how to install it. The wiring in the back of the AM radio looks fairly straightforward but I figured I'd bring it in and save the hassle..guess not. Anyone have any tips? Thanks

Mostly all GM Cars have been the same from the start. Hopefully you are not trying to keep the existing radio in the car for cosmetic reasons. Do you know, or have you seen what wire colors are on the back of the radio now? I need to see if GM use to use a common ground wire for the speakers. I have a 1978 delta 88, and in that year they did not have a common ground. In my Olds they used. Lft Frt "Tan, Grey" Rght Front " Lt Grn, Dk Grn" Left Rear "Brn, Yel" Rght Rear "Dk Blu, Lt Blue" All of the first colors are Positive. You may have to get battery power from the Cigarette Lighter. Ignition is "Yellow" Groung is "Black" Dimmer lights is "Grey"

successful

I kept the am radio in the car as I didnt want to do a cut out in the dash for the cd player. I disconnected the wiring for the am radio and traced everything to it's appropriate colors. My problem is that I had a fuse which had to replaced which is why my initial installation didnt work. Other than that I just had to buy an extension cable for the antenna. I installed it under the dash and replaced all my speakers (not being made for todays sound systems..if you want good sound anyhow). The front central speaker which was...I think 4x10 (dont remember) was replaced by two 3.5 inch sony speakers. I made a bracket for the two speakers to fit into the space of the original speaker. Much better sound then if you were to replace it with another speaker of the same size (limited selection for that size).
