adding oil to air compressor
My god, i haven't even thought to add oil to my air compressor. I bought this 92 corolla for 500 dollars about 3 years ago and have been given basically much more than my money's worth. No serious troubles that is. I am aware that compressors hold oil but I thought somer were sealed some weren't, and I dont know what type mine is anyway. But, really I just hadn't thought about it. I remeber oil changes, check transmission fluid etc.....Offhand do you know where I put the oil in, what type to use,how much etc. thanks a lot, girard Oh and keeping in mind, that it totally stops all that noise until i stop and park again. That is when I'm driving along, I hear nothting. thanks again. girard

belt squeak problem solved...thank God.
Do I ever feel strange about the ultimate solution to this problem......IT WAS A TIMING BELT IN THE PROCESS OF GOING OUT. I thought they always just went out at once.....just pull up to a light and it dies and wont start again. well it finally did that, and I knew what it was immediately(the timing belt problem that is)as I've had one go out before and i recognized the symptoms. But , alas, all the squeaking stopped.....and the guy said that does happen. I know I have never heard of it being the timing belt. thanks guys, still love this site , its the greatest. girard

you wont believe this but my problem turned out to be the TIMING BELT squeeking. I was floored as I stumbled upon the problem's solution. I was pulling up to a stop and my car died and the engine light came on and when i tried to start it, it turned over way to fast and sounded funny. I immediately suspected the timing belt as I knew it was way overdue to be changed.
How it would squeak is beyond me. The belt didn't break completely. On the inside a section of rubber containg the threads on the inside of the belt, had rotted with age and about a 3 or 4 inch piece broke loose from the belt, but the backbone of the belt was still intact. after getting it repaired I noticed the belts I thought were causing the squeaking were immediately and completly silenced. I mean not one more squeak. first i didnt realize belts broke in that fashion and i still dont see how it was squeaking, I just know it stopped and I'm thankful. thanks a lot Girard

i do appreciate yall's continued interest and response as I staggered thru the problem. I've always said, 'when you fix a problem yourself, you learn so much as you blindly push on."
Also, you dont forget what you've learned. thanks a lot everyone.
